WHO'S SPINNING WHAT

(originally published in The Milwaukee Journal Sentinal, April 15, 2005)

When he's not sitting in with Hubert Sumlin or Les Paul, Milwaukee's sideman extraordinaire Jon Paris actually has some time to listen to music.

Hear are some recent highlights that have been in heavy rotation on the Paris CD player:

  • "About Them Shoes" by Hubert Sumlin: "It's great to see Mr. Sumlin getting some well-deserved attention in the respectful company of Clapton, Richards, James Cotton, Paul Oscher, Bob Margolin...."
  • "Lost Elektra Sessions" by the Paul Butterfield Blues Band: "Though not a state-of-the-art recording, lots of soulful energy from this important American band."
  • "The Fred Waring Broadcasts featuring the Legendary Les Paul and his Trio": "Great insight into the beginnings of Les' vastly influental career."

Coming up for Paris will be gigs at Summerfest and the Iridium Jazz Club (New York) celebration of Les Paul's 90th birthday. Paris' latest album is "Blue Planet."
